I have a Sony crt hdtv from 2004, with one dvi input and two component inputs. I do not have it hooked up to a stereo receiver, all audio goes through the tv.
Currently I have two devices demanding the components (game consoles), and my dish receiver taking the dvi, using an hdmi to dvi cord and a left/right audio cable.
Enter a new device, the ps3. The ps3 can be attached via component or hdmi, but as you can see I’ve run out of space. I would love suggestions as to the best way of getting all my devices to work together.
Get a switch. A switch allows multiple devices to be hooked into one port, and it has an A/B button to select which device you want to use. Your dish receiver might have some inputs, but I doubt that it has a DVI or HDMI input. I would look for an HDMI switch, but I don’t know if they’re out there yet. If you can’t find one of those, I know that component switches are available. You can get those at Radio Shack for $30 or $40.
The guy below me just described a switch…

go to like radio shack and buy one of those boxes that have many input slots that allow you to plug in many differnt things

HDMI switch is out and cost about $120
the other 2 ways to go not mentioned are
1. if you have a loop within one of the items connected to the TV such as I have DVD player with 4 inputs 1 output(component)
so I connect my PS2,XBOX360 and VHS,Saturn into it.
2. Receiver is a savior for all Home theater systems.
go with a switch for cheapest method however I would go with component/composite switch to save more money I think the HDMI is over rated for now unless you watch HDTV or BlueRay upscaling is overrated, in my panasonic 50" plasma 480P and upscaled signal to 1080i looks exactly the same if not worse. unless its a HDTV or HD-DVD signal
